Chicken strips, fries, and triple white gravy. Likely the best fast food on earth. Available 24 hours.

What’s not to like.

I think he went to a shitty one. The one I would go to often in Florida, looked almost as good as the pictures. The quality of burger is better than most fast food places as well. Though I have to say, their regular burgers have nothing on their specialty burgers. Patty Melt is the way to go.

Mmm yes, that’s my late night drunk food selfhatred combo. A1 thick and hearty for slightly more sober moments. And piles of spicy ketchup. I’m salivating all over my favorite star-spangled shirt.

Whataburger is unequivocally the best burger around. The service is always great, and the food never sits under a lamp. You can order wheat buns, too!

The company itself is also pretty stellar, spearheading or partnering in numerous philanthropic efforts every year, including providing scholarships and disaster relief.

Whataburger also inspires bipartisan cooperation, as both the Texas State House and State Senate voted to name Whataburger a Texas treasure. You can see the legislative seal on the door to every single Whataburger location as a result.

They also have an excellent breakfast menu. Their BOB (breakfast on a bun) is delicious, but the real star is the breakfast on a biscuit.

Seniors are welcome to free cups of coffee, so you’ll often find a few early birds enjoying a cup while reading the morning paper.

Whataburger has recently expanded its retail efforts to include partnering with another well-beloved Texas business, HEB (chain of grocery stores that operates hundreds of stores across Texas and northern Mexico), to provide several of its ingredients for sale. These items include the pork sausage it uses in its breakfast sandwiches, its line of condiments (mustard, honey mustard, ketchup and spicy ketchup), as well as a potato chip-like version of its French fries.

On top of all that, Whataburger welcomes customers of all sorts. It’s not unusual to see people going through the drive-thru on horseback.

With its window decals proudly proclaiming “In God We Trust” and an American flag flying 24/7 outside of every location, Whataburger is singularly Texan and Southern. It is unapologetic in its pride. Despite that, don’t think you can bring your six shooters, because in the wake of new Open Carry legislation, the company boldly declared it does not welcome Open Carry on its properties.

Really, it is an amazing place with incomparable burgers.

Damnit. All this Whataburger talk is making me hungry.

WB is pretty good. Not the best, not the worst, but definately above the mean. A step below the gourmet burger tier but above the normal fast food trash IMO. I’ve been to many WBs in tiny awful towns and the food is consistent, so there’s that. Shakes are good, as are apple pies, and chicken tenders.

Drunken 2am taquitos is where it’s at...or that’s what I remember.

Whataburger is defintiely better than Wendy’s or Mc Donalds. About on par with In-n-Out. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s decent for fast food.

Nope. It'll never happen. Arguably the best thing about Whataburger is that it's Texan. As a born-and-bred Texan myself, that simply speaks to my soul in an indescribable way.

Plus the fries are the best.

I primarily buy into the hype for two reasons:

1: the Green Chile Double. As a New Mexican not residing in New Mexico, a green chile cheeseburger is a great way to “feel like home,” 24 hours a day.

2. Spicy ketchup. Not even hot by a long shot, but incredibly delicious.

A lot of the stuff Xylocaine brings up is worthwhile and true...in nearly all circumstances, I find Texan-patriotism to be distasteful, but I find that Whataburger’s brand of Texan-patriotism to be more humble and pleasant (i.e., actually tolerable) compared to other companies’ use of the sentiment. It’s an easy choice over the national chains.

Although, if Steak'n'Shake ever makes it to El Paso, all bets are off.

I’ve eaten there once. Can’t say I was impressed, to be honest. Plus, it weirds me out the way locals pronounce it like “Waterburger.” That is just not an appetizing concept.

If I have to eat a generic FF burger, I will pick WB every time. WB taught me to eat my hamburger with only mustard and no ketchup. You have to wait for your food, and they bring it to your table so it’s always hot. Their fries are excellent. At the end of the day, sure, it’s just a FF burger. But it’s a pretty good one. Come to TX sometime and we’ll hit one up.

Ate at both. Whataburger is better than Steak and Shake in my opinion. So far I haven’t ate a fast food burger better than Whataburger. Steak and shake, Five Guys, and In-N-Out are the only real competition. All of which do not seem to have overlapping service regions.
